Tara Burd, who is “of counsel” to our firm, has practiced law in California since 2011 after receiving her law degree in San Diego from California Western Law School. She excels at telling her client’s story — summing up what her client experienced, proving this summary by admissible evidence, and using closing argument to apply the law to the facts in order to obtain a just result for her client.
Increasingly, she devotes herself to complex litigation that gives rise to varied questions of law and disputed issues of fact. She has litigated probate and trust disputes, breaches of contract, civil rights, and personal injuries caused by negligent conduct. She has represented hundreds of clients in more than three hundred matters, and she has handled every stage of civil litigation, including trial and appellate litigation. In July 2017, she collaborated with the Southern California Legal Center to secure a judgment of $7.5 million for her client in a case that concerned a breach of contract to make a will.
Ms. Burd has received increasing recognition from her peers. In 2017, she was selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star, and in 2016 and again in 2017 she was named to the “Best of the Bar” in San Diego County.
Ms. Burd is a member of the Executive Committee for the Real Property Law Section of the California State Bar, as well as the sub-chairperson for this Section’s Statewide Networking & Outreach Committee for the San Diego region, which coordinates networking events at which real estate attorneys can meet other kinds of real property professionals.
Ms. Burd is also the Vice President for the Irish-American Bar Association of San Diego, and for the past three years she has been a judge of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in San Diego. She also belongs to the Hon. J. Clifford Wallace American Inn of Court, the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, the Lawyers’ Club, and the Probate and Real Property Sections of the San Diego County Bar Association.
Ms. Burd’s articles and commentary have appeared in the following publications: online sites for CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX-TV as well as GPSolo Magazine (a publication of the American Bar Association), The Boston Globe, The Riverside Press Enterprise, The San Diego Union-Tribune, Small Business Trendsetters, and The San Diego Professional Journal. She also has been a frequent guest speaker on ESPN 1700 AM, offering commentary on the law.
Originally from Cerritos, California, Ms. Burd settled in San Diego many years ago and enjoys spending much of her time in Point Loma and Ocean Beach. In her free time, she enjoys various social sports, other social activities, ballroom-style dancing, and good books. She is also a collector of rare restaurant menus and is a keen follower of several British television dramas.
